Beermats Brewing Co

Like plenty of good beer stories, Beermats began with friends sitting in a pub. Founded in 2017 after a conversation over what the brewery describes as good, honest British beer, the idea was to create a range that valued drinkability over chasing extremes. From the beginning, the philosophy was straightforward: brew great, easy-drinking beer that could appeal to a broad range of drinkers, whether enjoyed outside on a summer's day or beside the fire in winter.

The brewery found its home at Winkburn, a small Nottinghamshire hamlet surrounded by rolling countryside. Rather than an industrial estate or purpose-built brewing complex, Beermats operates from converted former dairy buildings on the old farm estate beneath Winkburn Hall. The rural setting has become part of the brewery's identity, with the brewhouse looking out across the Winkburn Estate and surrounding Nottinghamshire landscape.

Its beers follow the same uncomplicated character as the brewery itself. A core range is designed to cover a variety of tastes, while seasonal specials give the brewers room to offer something different throughout the year. The Beermats name also provides a playful theme for the range, drawing on an object almost inseparable from traditional British pub culture.

Quality and attention to detail remain central to the brewery's approach. Beermats describes its aim not as producing beer that is deliberately 'too out-there', but as making dependable, enjoyable beer that people want to return to. It is a philosophy rooted in the pub conversation that started the business in the first place: beer made to be enjoyed rather than overcomplicated.

Visitors can buy beer directly from the brewery shop at Winkburn, with bottles, cans and bag-in-box beer available alongside brewery merchandise. Brewery tours can also be arranged, giving visitors the opportunity to see how beer is produced inside the converted farm buildings and discover a brewery whose story remains closely connected to both the Nottinghamshire countryside and the simple pleasure of sharing a good beer.
