Brewery story
East London Brewing Co. was founded in 2011 by Stu and Claire, becoming part of the new generation of independent breweries that helped reshape London's beer scene. Inspired by the character and communities of East London, the brewery established a reputation for approachable, carefully crafted beers, combining traditional British brewing styles with modern flavours. Its beers became familiar sights in neighbourhood pubs, independent bars and bottle shops across the capital.
Over the following decade, East London Brewing developed a diverse range spanning classic cask ales, contemporary keg beers and packaged releases. Its portfolio reflects both brewing heritage and experimentation, with unfiltered, vegan-friendly core beers alongside seasonal specials. One particularly local collaboration is its annual September green-hopped beer, produced with the Walthamstow Beer Project using hops grown by small-scale growers in the community.
A significant new chapter began in 2025 when ownership passed to the brewery's majority shareholder. In 2026, East London Brewing relocated to the former Wild Card brewery site on Walthamstow's Blackhorse Beer Mile, investing in larger brewing facilities and opening a regular public taproom for the first time. The move also introduced expanded hospitality and event capabilities, including a space with a stated capacity of 1,500 people.
Today, East London Brewing continues to build its presence across the capital through its brewery taproom and connections with neighbourhood pubs including Empire Tavern, Tavern on the Hill, Leytonstone Tavern and The Duke Wanstead. While its ambitions extend beyond London, the brewery remains closely tied to the communities that shaped it, bringing together traditional cask brewing, modern craft beer and a distinctly East London identity.
