Good Chemistry Brewing

Good Chemistry Brewing was founded by Bob Cary and Kelly Sidgwick in 2015, establishing its brewery in a warehouse in Bristol's St Philips district. The brewery began with a 10-barrel brewing plant and developed an identity that combined an interest in carefully made beer with a playful scientific theme, reflected in the Good Chemistry name and the branding used across its beers.

From its Bristol base, Good Chemistry built its reputation around beer intended to bring people together. Community, creativity and character became central to the brewery's approach, with its beers moving from the tanks in St Philips into pubs, cans and other venues while remaining closely connected to the city in which the business began.

Hospitality has become an important part of that identity. The brewery's St Philips taproom sits alongside the working brewery, allowing visitors to drink Good Chemistry beer only feet from where it is produced. Open regularly on Fridays and Saturdays, the taproom offers fresh draught beer and takeaway cans and can also be hired for private events. Visitors wanting to see more of the production side can book brewery tours for a behind-the-scenes look at the operation.

Good Chemistry has also expanded its hospitality presence beyond the brewery itself. The Hop Pole on Upper Bristol Road in Bath is described by the brewery as its first dedicated Bath taphouse. The historic pub combines Good Chemistry beers with food, regular events and a courtyard beer garden, extending the brewery's community-led approach into a traditional neighbourhood pub setting.

After its first decade, Good Chemistry entered what it describes as a new chapter, with experienced hospitality partners joining the business. The brewery has presented the change as an opportunity to bring new ideas and energy while retaining the qualities around which it was originally built: quality beer, community and a distinctive local character.

Good Chemistry continues to brew from its original St Philips neighbourhood, with the working brewery, taproom and wider hospitality operation forming complementary parts of the business. Its emphasis remains on brewing with care and creating places where people can gather around beer, maintaining the community focus that has shaped the brewery since 2015.
