Brewery story

About New Bristol Brewery

Founded in 2013 by brothers Noel and Tom James before husband-and-wife team Noel and Maria James took the brewery forward, New Bristol Brewery has become a key part of Bristol's thriving independent beer scene. Brewing on a fifteen-barrel plant, the brewery combines traditional craftsmanship with a passion for modern beer styles, producing everything from hop-forward pale ales and IPAs to pastry stouts, lagers, sours and barrel-aged special releases.

Since opening its city centre brewery and taproom, New Bristol has built a reputation for creativity, inclusivity and collaboration. The team embraces Bristol's vibrant culture by working closely with local businesses, charities and artists while creating beers that push flavour boundaries without losing sight of balance and drinkability. Every beer is unfined and unfiltered, with many released in cans to ensure maximum freshness.

The brewery's astronaut gorilla mascot pays tribute to Alfred, Bristol Zoo's famous gorilla, while symbolising the brewery's philosophy of always going one step further. Today, New Bristol Brewery continues to champion independent brewing with a people-first approach, a welcoming taproom and an ever-evolving range of innovative beers that reflect the character and creativity of its home city.
