Hop Union Brewery is an independent Bristol brewery based in Brislington. Established as Great Western Brewing Company in 2006, it built its reputation on traditional cask beer before relocating and becoming Hop Union. Its expanded Bonville Road brewery is also home to a community-focused taproom hosting regular events, live music, quizzes and food pop-ups.
Brewery story
Hop Union Brewery began life as Great Western Brewing Company, established in 2006 at The Old Bakery in Hambrook. Over the following two years the team built its brewery and produced its first beer, beginning a long association with traditional cask brewing.
The brewery built its reputation over the following years with traditional cask beers produced using open-top fermenters, collecting a number of awards along the way.
After outgrowing its original home, the brewery relocated to Bonville Road in Brislington and rebranded as Hop Union. The move provided additional space for production and allowed the brewery to expand its approach to packaging and modern beer styles while retaining its established cask range.
Hop Union's Brislington brewery is also home to its taproom, which began as a place for people to meet and try new beers and has developed into a community-focused venue with the atmosphere of a neighbourhood pub.
The taproom regularly hosts live music, quizzes, beer tastings, food pop-ups and other events, reflecting Hop Union's aim of bringing people together around beer, creativity and its local Bristol community.
