Gun Brewery

Gun Brewery began on a 140-acre organic mixed farm in the Sussex Weald, where old hop plants still survive in the hedgerows. During 2014 the team converted a farm barn and installed the brewing equipment themselves, selling their first pint in January 2015. The farm quickly became central to Gun's identity, particularly its own spring water, drawn from beneath the organically farmed land and used for every brew.

Sustainability has shaped the brewery alongside its rural setting. Gun generates much of its own electricity from solar power, uses a wood-powered boiler for heating and sends spent grain to local livestock. As production grew, the original barn eventually reached its limits, but rather than leave the farm and its spring water behind, Gun built a larger purpose-designed brewery on the same site, moving in during March 2022.

The new brewery also created a permanent taproom, with 12 keg and four cask lines serving beer just feet from where it is made. Gun produces a core range alongside monthly specials and barrel-aged beers, including several gluten-free options. Brewery tours take visitors through the production process from raw ingredients and the brewkit to the canning line, followed by a guided tasting.

Gun has since expanded its hospitality beyond the farm with The Saffrons Taproom in Eastbourne, set within the historic Saffrons sports grounds. Together, the two taprooms provide distinctly Sussex homes for the brewery's beer, combining fresh pours with street food, music, quizzes and other events while keeping Gun closely connected to the county where it began.
