Beak Brewery is an independent craft brewery based in Lewes, East Sussex, producing modern hop-forward beers alongside crisp lagers, pilsners, barrel-aged releases and rich imperial stouts. Founded as a nomadic brewing project before establishing a permanent home in 2020, Beak has become one of the UK's most respected modern breweries, pairing innovative brewing with a vibrant taproom, community events and a strong focus on freshness and quality.
Brewery story
Beak Brewery was founded by food and drink writer Daniel Tapper, who began the project as a nomadic brewery. Working alongside some of the UK's most acclaimed independent breweries, Tapper spent several years refining recipes, learning modern brewing techniques and developing the distinctive hop-forward style that would later define Beak.
In 2020 the brewery established its permanent home in the historic East Sussex town of Lewes. From its base on the Cliffe Industrial Estate, Beak quickly built a reputation for expressive New England IPAs packed with vibrant hop character, while also producing an increasingly diverse range including crisp pilsners, pale ales, mixed-fermentation beers, barrel-aged releases and decadent imperial stouts.
Freshness remains central to Beak's brewing philosophy. Every beer is brewed, packaged and dispatched from the Lewes brewery, allowing customers to enjoy beer at its peak. Alongside nationwide shipping, the brewery also offers free local deliveries within the surrounding area and operates a barrel store for click-and-collect orders.
Community plays an equally important role in the brewery's identity. Beak's taproom has become one of Sussex's premier beer destinations, with fifteen lines pouring brewery-fresh beer alongside a constantly changing programme of independent street food, live music, cultural events and its own running club. The brewery also publishes Issues Zine and hosts These Hills Festival, extending its creative outlook beyond brewing.
Today Beak Brewery continues to push modern British brewing forward through carefully selected ingredients, continual recipe development and a commitment to producing fresh, characterful beer. From approachable pale ales to bold imperial stouts, every release reflects the brewery's belief that great beer should be expressive, balanced and best enjoyed with good food and good company.
