Lab In The Garage Brewing

Lab In The Garage was founded in Castleford in 2024 by Josh and Lucy. Brewing on a 200-litre kit, the brewery deliberately keeps production small batch, with eight core beers ranging from traditional northern bitter and oatmeal stout to contemporary styles such as West Coast IPA.

Founder and brewer Josh first experienced commercial brewing during school work experience at Oakwell Brewery in Barnsley, returning there during his university summers while studying physics. After working in education, he returned to the industry at Little Black Dog Brewing Co, combining the traditional techniques he learned at Oakwell with a more modern craft approach. Lucy, who met Josh while they were both working in education, manages much of the organisation and administration behind the brewery.

The brewery is firmly rooted in Castleford, sourcing all of its malt locally from Fawcett's Maltsters. Its Labrador-inspired identity comes from Josh and Lucy's dogs, with the original Labrador Benji inspiring both the brewery's name and the theme used across its beers.
