Sheffield nanobrewery founded by Nick Law in 2014, producing small-batch craft beers inspired by biblical stories, Christian heritage and playful religious wordplay. Known for inventive names and characterful brewing, Emmanuales produces beers primarily in cans, alongside occasional bottles, keg and cask.
Brewery story
Emmanuales was founded in Sheffield in 2014 by Nick Law, combining a passion for craft beer with an unusual source of inspiration: the Christian faith. Describing its mission as brewing beers of biblical proportions, the brewery takes a light-hearted approach to religious heritage, with names such as Haze The Lord, All Hail Redeemer Ale and Hosanna in the Rye-est. The emphasis is firmly on sharing good beer rather than preaching.
After establishing itself in Sheffield's independent beer scene, Emmanuales took a sabbatical in 2018. Plans to resume brewing were then delayed by the pandemic, with full production eventually returning in 2021. The brewery now operates on a small 200-litre scale using equipment previously owned by Verdant Brewing Co, producing beer mainly in cans alongside occasional bottled, keg and cask releases.
Founder Nick Law also has a connection to one of Britain's most distinctive brewing traditions through his work brewing Tynt Meadow at Mount St Bernard Trappist Brewery. At Emmanuales, that brewing experience meets a more playful approach, with biblical references, hymns and religious wordplay woven throughout the range.
Beyond the beer, Emmanuales supports charitable causes focused on clean water and sanitation, including WaterAid and Toilet Twinning. Its beers can be found through independent shops and venues around Sheffield, keeping this small brewery closely connected to its local community while spreading its particular brand of good news one beer at a time.
