Neepsend Brew Co. is a Sheffield brewery established in 2015, producing an ever-changing range of cask and key keg beers from its 10-barrel brewery in the city's Neepsend district. Hop-forward pale ales are a particular focus, alongside its core Neepsend Blonde.
Brewery story
Neepsend Brew Co. was established in 2015 by James Birkett and Gavin Martin after they took over Little Ale Cart Brewery. The new brewery took its name from Sheffield's Neepsend district, initially operating close to Ball Street bridge over the River Don, which went on to inspire its logo.
In 2020, Neepsend moved around the corner to larger premises at 92 Burton Road, remaining within an area of Sheffield known for its concentration of breweries, makers and other independent businesses. The brewery operates a 10-barrel plant and supplies its beer primarily into the local market.
Rather than maintaining a large permanent core range, Neepsend focuses on constantly changing beers across cask and key keg. Hop-forward pale ales are a particular speciality, showcasing different hop varieties sourced from around the world, while Neepsend Blonde provides the consistent core of the range.
The brewery describes its approach simply as 'No Hype, No Hard Sell, Just Great Beer', reflecting a deliberately understated focus on the beer itself. Its Burton Road brewery also has an occasional onsite taproom, providing a direct connection between the brewery and Sheffield's established beer community.
