Leeds brewery established in 2015, originally growing out of the city's North Bar group. Known for modern craft beer and increasingly large-scale canned production, North moved to its Springwell brewery in 2021, where brewing, packaging and contract production continue.
Brewery story
North Brewing Co opened in Leeds in 2015, initially producing beer for the North Bar group of venues around the city. Demand soon spread beyond its own bars, leading to an early expansion of the original brewery to a 15-barrel system as North established itself within the UK's modern craft beer scene.
Rapid growth in canned beer brought another change. With North reaching a much wider national audience, substantially more brewing and packaging capacity was needed. In 2021 production moved to Springwell on Buslingthorpe Lane, giving the brewery a significantly larger permanent home in Leeds.
North entered a period of major ownership change in 2024 when the brewery was acquired by fellow Leeds brewer Kirkstall. Its brands were subsequently sold to Keystone Brewing Group in 2025 and then to Great British Drinks Company in 2026.
Despite those changes, brewing remains at Springwell. The Leeds site continues to produce and package North beer while taking on an increased role in contract brewing and packaging, giving the brewery established in 2015 a different focus for its next chapter.
