Shipstone's story began in 1852 when James Shipstone started brewing in Basford, Nottingham. The brewery became part of a city with a long brewing heritage, helped historically by Nottingham's caves and water profile, and Shipstone's developed into one of its best-known beer names.
The modern Shipstone's range is brewed at the Little Star Brewery in Old Basford. The 10-barrel brewery began life as Fiddlers Ales in 1996 and later became Alcazar Brewery before Shipstone's took over brewing there in late 2016, bringing production of beers that had previously been contract brewed at Belvoir Brewery to Nottingham.
Today, Shipstone's focuses on a core range of five beers based on recipes from its archives. Brewed in small batches, they continue the historic Nottingham name while the brewery also produces beers under the Hollow Stone Brewing Co brand.
