Triple fff Brewery was established in Four Marks, Hampshire, in 1997 and takes its name from the musical instruction 'fff', or fortissimo, meaning very loud. Music runs throughout the brewery's identity, with almost all of its beers named with a musical theme. From an original five-barrel brewery, Triple fff has grown to operate a 50-barrel plant alongside a smaller five-barrel system commissioned in 2023 for creative and experimental brewing.
Brewery story
Triple fff Brewery was launched in 1997 by founder Graham Trott, who remains a shareholder in the business alongside Managing Director Xen Gladstone. The brewery is based at Magpie Works in Four Marks, Hampshire, close to the heritage Watercress Line railway between Alton and Alresford.
The brewery's distinctive name comes from 'fff', the musical notation for fortissimo, or very loud. Music has remained central to the brewery's identity, reflecting what it describes as a love of two of life's great pleasures: music and beer. Its beers are intended to be 'loud but not noisy', with distinct, strong and clear flavours.
Triple fff began on a five-barrel brewing plant before expanding considerably. It now operates a 50-barrel plant, while a new five-barrel plant was commissioned in 2023 to allow the brewing team to continue developing smaller and more creative batches.
Music also inspires the names of almost all Triple fff beers, drawing on musicians and songs from across the years. One notable exception is its Best Bitter, Alton's Pride, which has become one of the brewery's most decorated beers.
Alton's Pride has received major recognition including CAMRA's Supreme Champion Beer of Britain, and the brewery states that it also won at the World Beer Awards 2025 and was named SIBA's Best Bottled British Ale in 2025.
Visitors can experience Triple fff at its Four Marks brewery, which includes a taproom and brewery shop. The brewery also runs bookable brewery tours, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about its brewing operation and its history.
