Independent brewery founded in Horsforth in 2017, growing from a part-time garage brewing project into an established Yorkshire brewery. Alongside its flagship Pale, Horsforth produces an evolving range of beers and operates community-focused venues in Horsforth and Ilkley.
Brewery story
Horsforth Brewery began in 2017 when home brewer Mark Costello started brewing commercially from his garage in Horsforth. What began as a part-time project gradually grew until Mark left his day job to concentrate on the brewery full time — a move that happened just as the first Covid lockdown arrived.
Despite that difficult start, the brewery continued to develop and moved into larger premises in 2020. Its Horsforth taproom has since become a central part of the business, combining the working brewery with a community venue for beer, comedy, live music, quizzes, cinema nights and other events.
The brewery remains independent and rooted in the local area, producing its flagship Pale alongside an evolving range of beers. In 2026 it expanded its hospitality side by taking on Fuggle & Golding in Ilkley, giving Horsforth Brewery a second community-focused venue.
